The SDP Streaming Media Recorder

The SDP Multimedia website for ASF download and MMS protocol specification
The real reason why I didn't reedit those Red Stripe films is I couldn't convert one of the QuickTime streams!
Here's a program that will take mms links and download them to a local file. Not sure if its a record of the download itself (like including any hiccups, or bitrate drops) or it pulls the full file somehow, but it is a solution. I googled for a good hour and found nothing like this.
MMS or ' Microsoft Media Server ' protocol is Microsoft's proprietary network streaming protocol. Microsoft has never released a specification to describe how MMS actually works, yet it is extensively used by their Microsoft media player software. MMS protocol can be used on top of TCP and UDP transport protocols over any network medium. Its primary use is to stream live or prerecorded audio and video content to your computer without any need to download a file before playing.

.htaccess file to list a directory content
Let's say you want to allow your web users to see the 'downloads' folder contentby simply typing http://yoursite.com/downloads in their browsers.Create a folder named 'downloads' under your document root (/var/www/html/ for ENSIM panel). Put a simple text file in that folder named '.htaccess', which includes the following line:Options AllThat's it! Your users will be able to see all other files in http://yoursite.com/downloads and download them by one click.

With DivX beginning to appear in DVD players later this year, the next stage of video compression development is already under way. DivXNetworks is working on H.264, a standard that compresses video by as much as 75 percent. The company believes that using such compression, a DVD stream can be pushed over the Internet at a magic 384 Kbps. This also bodes well for the future of high-definition compression and, eventually, high-definition video streams. The DVD manufacturers are in for a surprise with the popularity of DivX.
By this time next year, DivX will be in the public lexicon.

Red Stripe Ambassador fights Lennox Lewis

Lennox Lewis, the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World (thats Earth) has Challenged the Jamaican Red Stripe Ambassador.... ow.

This had the potential to be alot funnier. So much so that I spent an hour trying to convert the mov files to re-edit it myself. (perhaps later)
http://us.redstripebeer.com this site used to be hilarious, with "webcams" of the redstripe compound that just had film Ambassador finding bottles of beer in every room and smiling. Hmm, sorta like my old apartment.

Spam Gourmet self-destructing email addresses

http://spamgourmet.com
If you give your email address to everyone, you are bound to receive spam emails, and you won't know where they came from. Wouldn't it be convenient to give a different email address to every business or web site, while getting all your email as before? Wouldn't it be easiest to assume the address will be given to spammers, and have it shut off automatically unless you decide otherwise?

Origami Bowl

Origami Bowl
Because I totally agree, getting up and getting a bowl...is totally out of the question. Fold away, you foldy folders.
No. I haven't tried it yet, as I am also to lazy yo lean over and get paper, let alone fold. Im out of breath hitting just these keys
EDIT-It works, just start open side down, and the last quarter folds bottom fold should be in line with the edge, and the top should go past the point of the v to hold it all together.
Finished box is 10.8cm square and 5.5cm high, and useful for absolutely nothing, I will cherish it forever.

American Dad from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, is the animated story of Stan Smith (MacFarlane), who works for the CIA and is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. Stan will go to extremes to protect his beloved America from harm – as evidenced by the terror-alert color code on his fridge, and his frequent knee-jerk reaction of shooting holes in the toaster whenever the toast pops up.

http://www.switch2firefox.com/
Last month Jakob Perry was moved by the sheer number of articles about "how IE's security sucks" coming out into the world. So he decided that it'd be cool to have a Firefox Marketing site.. a Switch site, somewhat like Apple's Switch site. Yes it does look similar to Apple's site, but if you take a look, all the code is different. Instead of the Tables and HTML Apple uses, the Firefox Switch site is done in 100% valid CSS/XHTML ...

"...some experts suggest that you should wait for the other side to speak first. By receiving the opening offer, the argument goes, you'll gain valuable information about your opponent's bargaining position and clues about acceptable agreements. This advice makes intuitive sense, but it fails to account for the powerful effect that first offers have on the way people think about the negotiation process. Substantial psychological research suggests that, more often than not, negotiators who make first offers come out ahead"

Music for Robots contracted by Warner Bros

The MP3 blog I was "concisely" hyping back here, has inked an agreement to use songs from the WB catalog. This is pretty f'n cool. That is, unless MFR turns into a whorey corporate superfan.
http://music.for-robots.com/archives/000423.html
"The label has done cool things with the marketing (like linking directly to iTunes from the artist's home page, giving away a sampler cd and special cd-r with the download, etc). We're glad that mp3 blogs are being recognized as a next step in the marketing ladder. This is also exciting because big labels like this don't commonly post mp3s -- they sometimes have streams, but rarely downloadable content. So this is a new thing for everybody, and it's pretty exciting."

When is 1 better than 3? (Kottke/Waxy/Dash rollup)

(Kottke/Waxy/Dash rollup) http://rollup.org/rollup/rollup.php?id=379
A rollup is an automated blog that aggregates (rolls up) a number of different sources. Using RSS feeds you can create your own rollup for any topic.
Rollups are also known as 'community aggregators', because they aggregate content around a shared community of interest.
Looks like you can't add any new rollups (look at the front page) but this site seems to do the same sort of thing

Garden State, the Shins

http://newyorkmetro.com/nymetro/movies/features/9533/
I've been hyping this band like I was their manager for the past 4 months or so, and they're on cemented Lyra rotation. I'm pleased to hear they're featured in Garden State, which looks very promising.
There is actually a line in the film that says listen to this song, it will change your life, or something. This is the track that is played: Shins-New Slang.
These are the two tracks that hooked me: Gone For Good, and Kissing the Lipless
This is definately WAY more popish than what I normally I gravitate to, but damned if these crackers aint got my ear.
I'd never have heard them without A. Finding the Sub-Pop MP3 page, and B. buying the Lyra to play the MP3s. I also like Iron&Wine listen dem.

Alarm clock webpage

This alarm clock thinks its a web page. Silly.
If I was smarter
I would build this into a web page.
Surprising. After much googlery and backlink checking, i don't think anyone else has either

Gyration. That is the forbidden mouse!

Kudos to the CSRs @ Gyration. After sitting in a box for 8 months, my mouse's receiver wasn't being recognized by XP. Whether it was something I did while moving, we'll never know... ahem *cougrecordcrate* By some stroke of luck it fell within a select number of units recalled for a reception issue. One call and a replacement was zipped out to me, arriving today.
I urge you all to check this product out. Despite my technical issue, its a great product I couldn't go without now. It's sold at CDW.ca

Jawbone resonant Headset

This one is a little old, but somehow I never researched it. Now that I have a little time...
Jawbone.com has nothing more but press clippings, and Aliph is more excited about the sine waves than showing off the design. Bah.
At the moment it still hasn't been released, but there has been a live demo. Looky.
The hottest tech demo of the day was a new product called Jawbone, a noise-canceling headset for cell phones that will be out later this year and sell for "under $150," says the manufacturer, San Francisco-based Aliph. In a demonstration of the headset from outside the building on a call to the auditorium, with a live video feed on the screen, a user talked over the sound of a boom box, a weed cutting and a blender. By switching on the noise-canceling device, the background noises all but disappeared and the speakers on the stage had a clear conversation with the demonstrators outside, despite the fact that the viewers could clearly see the blender and weed cutter were still going strong.

GHOST TOWN - Chernobyl Pictures

http://www.kiddofspeed.com/
To begin our journey, we must learn a little something about radiation. It is really very simple, and the device we use for measuring radiation levels is called a geiger counter . If you flick it on in Kiev, it will measure about 12-16 microroentgen per hour. In a typical city of Russia and America, it will read 10-12 microroentgen per hour. In the center of many European cities are 20 microR per hour, the radioactivity of the stone.
