Tunnel Vision at 401
Tunnel Vision
Presented by: Trinity Square Video
3D animation, video, lighting and sound alter space forming a long and deep disorienting tunnel. Montreal-based photographer Isabelle Hayeur and new media artist/sculptor Éric Raymond create a trompe l’oeil effect based upon the tradition in painting, constructing an illusory surreal space that plays with our senses.
Adopting the history of the trompe l’oeil painting to the realm of video, Hayeur and Raymond literally “trick the eye” into believing that the flat wall of the gallery recedes deeply into a cavernous corridor by creating a fictional space based on the architecture of the actual space. The artists transport us through this fictional environment until we come to the light at the end of the tunnel. Here they overwhelm the senses with light and sound, causing a rupture in our understanding of the space and leaving the viewer with a disoriented, but not unpleasant sensation. In Tunnel Vision Hayeur and Raymond draw our attention to how stimuli – such as light, sound – affect our emotional state and our understanding of an immersive environment. While the rational mind does not believe the illusion Hayeur and Raymond present, our senses tell us otherwise, leaving the viewer with a visual puzzle to solve. Their work built what Hayeur calls “a strangeness that is created via the meeting of divergent universes.” [livewithculture]

JUSTICE @ ED BANGER PARTY VOL. 1
With DJs Mehdi, Sebastian, Busy P. at .
In the way that French filtered house stormed dancefloors in the late '90s, influencing everything in its path, so now the disco punk of Parisian label Ed Banger has come to dominate today's dance scene. Former Daft Punk manager Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P is at the helm, but the duo of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Auge, a.k.a. Justice, have led the charge. They came together in 2003 and have been wreaking sonic havoc ever since. Their super-catchy remix of Simian's “Never Be Alone” became a club anthem and led to Justice remixes being commissioned by everyone from DFA 1979 and Daft Punk to Britney Spears. The duo's noisy original track “Waters of Nazareth” hints at the album to come [Eye.net]

Pawa Up First.
These guys played after Fink at Sneaky's a while back but I had to leave to watch Freq Nasty make a salad on the decks.
Pawa Up First The Scenario
Canada
Website: Pawa Up First
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/pawaupfirst
Label: Dare to Care Records
Why You Should Hear it: The Scenario is one of the smoothest releases to come out of Canada in a long time. Pawa Up First gets lazy with the listener and kicks back to some groovy, soothing tunes. No motivation is necessary for The Scenario, the band quickly wraps you in its own little world. [silent ballet]
Oh yeah, and they're playing with Holy F*ck (odd?) this weekend.

BLACK CAMEL ADELAIDE CLOSED!
Bad news my friends. I just found out Black Camel on Adelaide is CLOSED.
They're selling the location to the head chef, who will be opening up his own "wrap and soup" type restaurant.
I called the other location crying profusely, blubbering and wailing uncontrollably. The nice man talked me down and offered to put a sandwich in a cab for me.
They also cater orders of 20 and over.
For the sandwich that makes you see through time, you can still visit the other location on 4 Crescent Road, Toronto, ON, Canada - (416) 929-7518

Sweet Thing @ Lee's Palace --> FREE!
Sweet Thing is a six piece Toronto band that plays an upbeat, infectious brand of indie rock, charged with dueling guitars, foot stomping grooves, soulful harmony singing and a healthy dose of hand claps. Influences range from classic rock (The Beatles, CCR, The Band) to Motown/Soul (Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson) to indie power pop (Sloan, Ted Leo).
This is music for the easily bored & the young at heart. These kids have moxie!
Sweet Thing includes Morgan, Tyler, Nick, Owen, Alex & Tim.
