Stanaphone Offers free international calls tomorrow
Stanaphone has been my pick for VoIP tinkering for a few months now. Fairly low per minute rate, incoming calls and voicemail free and unmetered. Account setup was easy, applying a credit was simple, and the services SOUND GOOD. Support is non-existant and they've since removed PayPal deposits but again, the service works, and sounds good. For the most part you wont need help, as the software requires only your number and password without any router configuration. And now that TigerJet has released TJinit, (850/843) you can use their USB phones/adapters to answer calls, dial numbers into the stanaphone client app (a skin on SJPhone software) The only thing missing is the ringer, which is directed to the PC speakers. With the adapter you are able to use a traditional wired or portable home phone and walk around your house talking over IP.
I think small, pay-as-you go apps like this are the way to go. The cell phone replaces the landline, the Stanaphone replaces the cell when charging or in areas of low cell signal. Call Forward/No Answer transfer removes the need for voicemail on your Cell account. Stana offers free voicemail to email, sending off messages in a wav file to the address of your choice.
I'm not sure how the actual company is doing financially, but with these user benefits and savings its an alternative tough to turn down.
->edit: I had issues with the 850 TjInit version on my laptop, but not on desktop. 843 is also linked above.
Anyway-heres their most recent benefit...
"Instead of sending flowers, candy or trinkets this Valentine's Day, StanaPhone's existing customers can make free and unlimited calls to 46 major destinations around the world.
Michael Choupak, President and Founder of StanaPhone.com, the only VoIP service with real New York City phone numbers available at no charge upon signup said, "This Valentine's Day we'd like to reward our loyal customers with a special offer that enables them to connect with their loved ones. StanaPhone is easy to use and has superior voice quality and functionality. It includes free voicemail, free and unlimited calls from StanaPhone to StanaPhone, and competitive long distance as well as international rates in comparison to other Internet telephone service providers. We hope this promotion encourages other people to sign up for StanaPhone now in order to take advantage of our free calling day".
