Today on the 401, Thousands of cases of beer were broken. It spilled everywhere. Not a drop drank. Just lost. LOST! Also, there was some traffic problems. But ohhh the beeer!
The accident occurred at approximately 6:30am Wednesday, when the Molson big rig overturned on the eastbound core lanes near Highway 400 at the basketweave – one of the busiest sections of the highway.
The eastbound core lanes have been shut down ever since – though emergency crews were working to reopen at least one lane to help the backed up traffic get through.
Two lanes in the collectors were open, but motorists had better forget about getting to work on time. The southbound 400 was also tied up, as well as the westbound 401, where rubberneckers wanted to get a better look at the spill.
Amazingly, no one was seriously injured in the crash. A woman driving a Honda Civic behind the truck was trapped for some time in her vehicle – which was almost completely demolished.
Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, arrived on scene and the motorist was taken to hospital. O.P.P. Sgt. Cam Woolley said the injuries could have been much worse.
“The good news is the young lady that was in the Honda Civic that was in collision with that tractor trailer is not seriously injured. She has gone to hospital in a ground ambulance. She is in quite good condition given the damage to her car,” he said. “The bad news is that traffic, as you can see, is not good.
This is the busiest stretch of highway in North America right here by Highway 400 and the eastbound express lanes will be closed I would suggest probably through noon.”
Clean-up crews will be working through the morning to sweep up the broken glass and lager.
