The Heavy - Sixteen

The Heavy: The House That Dirt Built
English-band, the Heavy, release their sophomore album, The House That Dirt Built. The band's debut album, Great Vengeance and Furious Fire, delivered gritty funk/soul but the band attempts to expand their sound on the follow up.
The Heavy combine the retro vision of the Coral, the grit of Electric Six, and the thematic elements of the Misfits.

David Ryan Harris (who is currently on tour in John Mayer's band) on November 23rd at the Supermarket in Kensington Market.
This also happens to be the night before John Mayer's CD release here in the Tdot, so he may stop in and make an appearance and perhaps even get up on stage to jam out on 'Sweetest Berry'.
Doors Open at 9:30. And it's $10 at the door.

THE SLEW

A couple of years back Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and Dylan J. Frombach (aka Dynomite D) were approached to soundtrack a new documentary feature film that was in production. Koala was already well known for his uncanny turntable manipulation, whilst Dylan had remixed Money Mark and collaborated with the Beastie Boys, amongst others. The duo worked for a long time on the psych rock-influenced score, only for the filming to collapse and any release to be canned. Although the film may never see the light of day, its music is about to be brought to life on stage

This Sat Nov14 -Skratch Bastid Presents...

Saturday, November 14th at Revival Bar in Toronto will be the first show in a series entitled SKRATCH BASTID PRESENTS. This will be a quarterly night based around mixing and matching musical styles and ideas while staying conscious of the party atmosphere. A collaborative DJ experience.

The first line-up features myself, Scratch (beatboxer from The Roots) and DJ Starting From Scratch. The DJs will be going on 4 turntables and Scratch will be live on the mic with his effects unit. Some of it will be mildly rehearsed, but for the most part it will be off-the-top and in response to the vibe of the room. Visuals will be provided by mixMotion, who will add an interactive visual aesthetic to the live performance.

Google Buys Gizmo 5

http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/09/exclusive-google-has-acquired-gizmo5/

Within Google Voice you have the option to point your calls to either a real cell or wired line. In addition the service allows you to direct calls to a Gizmo5 line. This service is compelling for a few reasons.
1. Delivers calls via SIP to my cordless phone running on a Sipura VoIP ATA
2. Provides a backup line for outbound landline calls (with credit)
3. Allows you (at fee) to modify your outbound Caller ID to match my Google Voice number. This allows me to access callback services like MobiVox, Rebtel
4. It completes toll free numbers at no cost - so I can access my conference bridge and services like Google411 and ReQall.

Very interested to see what additional functionality Google brings to the game.

The Soul Polisher returns with DubStep 4: another solid blend of beats and bites, blended with stolen corporate server cycles and just a hint of sarcasm.

Quoth the mighty Polisha:

"It's got all the good stuff: Joker, Emalkay, Joy Orbison and Cooly G"
