SKULLFEST at STEAMWHISTLE
Marek Colek on exhibit at SKULLFEST
I'm glad everyone loves Marek Colek's work as much as I do. I'm a sucker for drawings of boats and buildings. And with the color and detail in his artwork, it's just a perfect combination.
You can find more of Marek's work at Tin Can Forest, an independent animation and design studio that he and Pat Shewchuk have run since 1998.
On Halloween, you can catch Marek's work, along with a bunch of our other favorite Canadian artists, at Skullfest. The show takes place at the Steamwhistle Gallery, which probably means free food and beer. Just typing that made me hungry.

Cut Chemist
CKLN Presents
Cut Chemist & Lyrics Born
With special guest Edan
Cut Chemist, is a former member of the popular underground hip-hop group, Jurassic 5, and was also a member of the funky Latin band Ozomatli. Aside from his work with Jurassic 5, Cut Chemist has explored remixing with premier DJs such as DJ Shadow. This innovative turntablist made his album debut with the release of Live at Future Primitive Sound Session Version 1.1 in 1998. The album received strong reviews from critics so he followed his initial solo success with the release of Brainfreeze in 1999. This collaboration with DJ Shadow also received very strong reviews, and was considered to be a huge innovation in the realm of hip hop mix-tapes.
Cut Chemist's first full-length solo album The Audience's Listening, was released on July 11, 2006. The albums first single, "The Garden" features a bossa nova style groove and Portuguese vocals from Astrud Gilberto's Brazillian song "Berimbau". Also featured on the album are MCs Mr. Lif, Edan and People Under The Stairs’ Thes One.
Lyrics Born began his hip-hop career as a DJ in college. It was not too long before he moved on to become a founding member of the Quannum Projects along with Lateef the Truthspeaker, Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel of Blackalicious and DJ Shadow. Lyrics Born released his debut solo album in October 2003, Later that Day. This album broke the Billboard Charts while peaking at number 40 on the Top Independent Album charts. In 2005 Lyrics Born released his second album Same !@#$ Different Day. This album contained multiple remixes from his debut album Later That Day, along with many original recordings. Following the release of his second album, Lyrics Born’s single Callin’ Out was used in many forms such as a Diet Coke Commercial in 2004, and was featured in the video game MLB 2006.
